Though it has a built-in amp and runs on a battery, it can also be plugged in. The story goes that Dave had left the guitar turned on for an hour, and then recorded the solo while the guitar didn't have much power, to give the "Walkabout" solo some crunch. It was recorded with the mic placed right up to the guitar's speaker and volume all the way up.
